College, University, and Environment: UWM is classified as a highest-research activity doctoral university (i.e., R1) by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Located on the east side of Milwaukee, UWM offers ready access to diverse student and community populations. Housed in UWM’s Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, the Institute for Child and Family Well-being is known for is strong community and statewide partnerships and for designing, implementing, testing, and disseminating effective programs and policies.
