Description
The School of Social Work (School) at The University of Texas at Arlington is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Associate Dean for Student & Academic Affairs. This pivotal role requires a deep commitment to academic excellence and student success, the strategic vision to advance the School’s mission and priorities, and strong leadership skills to manage a large student-centered team. The Associate Dean is part of the Dean’s Senior Leadership Team.
Strategic Vision and Leadership:
- Develop and refine the School’s academic and student success priorities.
- Provide leadership in achieving the School’s mission and educational strategic goals.
Budget Oversight:
- Manage and oversee a significant budget to support academic and student services initiatives.
Operational Management:
- Oversee daily operations of undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Support the leadership in the offices of Practicum Education, Academic Advising, and Student Affairs.
Team Supervision:
- Provide supervision to the leaders of undergraduate and graduate programs, Academic Affairs, Practicum Education, Academic Advising, and Student Affairs.
Accreditation, Assessment, and Compliance:
- Lead reaffirmation requirements and processes from the Council on Social Work Education, University, and SACSCOC.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and requirements.
- Manage report preparation.
- Oversee the design and implementation of assessment indices to ensure student learning and accreditation requirements.
Course and Faculty Management:
- Oversee the academic course schedule and faculty teaching assignments.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs to support instructional development for faculty.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs to inform annual faculty evaluations with respect to teaching and mentoring students.
Collaborative Leadership:
- Work collaboratively with University and School administrators to promote the School’s vision, mission, values, and strategic goals.
- Develop academic programs that align with workforce needs and leverage the School’s expertise.
Policy Development and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise policies and procedures to strengthen the School’s strategic direction and educational standards.
- Ensure relevant standardization across academic programs.
Student Success:
- Demonstrate accountability for student success including curriculum delivery, student persistence, graduation rates, and satisfaction.
- Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and academic policies.
- Champion a culture of student engagement initiatives that promote belonging and professional development across all students (in-person and virtual) populations.
Mentorship and Resource Management:
- Serve as a resource, mentor, and policy interpreter for faculty, staff, and students.
- Collaborate with the Academic and Student Affairs team to foster an exceptional student experience.
Committee Participation:
- Serve on University and School committees.
- Appoint and oversee committees or task forces addressing academic affairs issues.
Curriculum Oversight:
- Maintain content for the University Catalog.
- Provide leadership on curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.
Faculty and Student Initiatives:
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs to support initiatives enhancing faculty, staff, and student success.
- Lead initiatives to enhance the student experience and support timely program completion.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Social Work (or closely aligned field) or DSW.
- MSW with a minimum of 2 years of post-MSW practice experience.
- Demonstrated 3 years of leadership experience in an academic setting, preferably in a CSWE accredited social work program.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and oversee operational functions.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to belonging and engagement, and a supportive work environment.
- Appointment at Associate/Full Professor with tenure or Associate/Full Professor of Practice (non-tenure track)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of CSWE and SACSCOC accreditation processes and standards.
- Demonstrated 5 years of leadership experience in an academic setting, preferably in a CSWE accredited social work program.
